Pick Minecraft, pick a location, pick a plan, and a few minutes later your friends are joining a world without anyone touching a control panel. It sounds too easy, and for a beta feature it comes with a lot of fine print.

Discord has been rolling out Game Servers to a limited number of communities, and the details aren’t very clear. Discord’s own help page doesn’t list RAM, CPU, or even a clear price for most plans. That makes it hard to know whether it beats a normal game host.

Short version: Discord Game Servers are a convenient shortcut for a casual weekend world, but they are still an experiment, the specs are unpublished, and payments are non-refundable. If you want a server you can plan around, Cybrancee is the safer bet, with plans from $1.99 a month and a 90-day money-back guarantee. Here is what each one offers.

What Are Discord Game Servers?

Game Servers is a feature that lets you launch a dedicated server for a supported game from inside Discord. You don’t need your own PC or a separate host account. The servers are run by third-party providers, and the Game Panel behind them is operated by Shockbyte. Discord doesn’t moderate them.

Discord calls this an experiment. Its help article says new servers may not always be available to create, for example during high demand or while the feature is still an experiment. If you don’t see the option on your server, it probably hasn’t reached you yet.

Supported games: The list currently includes Minecraft (Java and Bedrock), Palworld, Rust, Enshrouded, 7 Days to Die, Terraria, Valheim, Counter-Strike 2, Hytale, Stardew Valley, Satisfactory, Necesse, V Rising, Factorio, Vintage Story, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds. That is 16 games, and Discord can add more over time.

How you get one: There are two routes.

The first uses Server Boosts. An admin or the server owner opens the Server Boosts tab, hovers over the Game Servers perk, presses Create Game Server, and picks a game, a name, a location, and a plan. Then they press Enable Game Server. Nobody pays a separate bill, because the boosts cover it.

The second is a direct purchase. Any user can open the Shop, go to the Game Servers tab, choose a game, set the same options, and check out with a payment method on file. The server renews monthly until you cancel. People with an active Nitro subscription get a discounted price on eligible plans.

Plans and cost: Discord describes three tiers in general terms only.

Plan

What Discord says

Starter

Entry level, best for small groups or lightweight setups

Pro

Mid tier with more resources for mods or larger player counts

Ultimate

Highest tier with the most power and flexibility

The cheapest boost option starts at 3 Boosts, and other games and higher plans cost more. Exact boost counts show up in the setup window. The help page doesn’t print the direct purchase price either. Boosts sell for roughly $5 each, so an estimate for the cheapest option is around $15 a month, though Nitro includes two boosts that you can put toward it.

Limits: You can have up to 10 game servers per Discord server and up to 5 active direct subscriptions per user. Game Server subscriptions can’t be gifted.

The rules that bite: If a boost-unlocked server loses the boosts that support it, Discord deletes the game server after 3 days. A server also goes to Sleeping after 7 or more days without activity. Upgrades are prorated and take effect immediately, while downgrades wait for the next renewal. If you cancel, you keep access until the billing period ends. And the help page is blunt about this: payments are final and non-refundable.

What Discord doesn’t publish: RAM, CPU, and player limits for each plan. The full list of locations. Backup policies. You are told that closer locations have lower latency, and that is about it. For a feature that charges real money, that is a lot of blanks.

On the plus side, setup really is fast, and joining is easy. Members find the server in the Game Servers tab or through a shared link, and each game has its own connection steps. Valheim, for example, needs the admin to share the server password.

What Is Cybrancee?

Cybrancee is a game server host run by HOW ABOUT GROUP LTD, a company registered in London. It rents you the machine that runs your world. You order a plan, the server is created instantly, and you manage it from a customised Pterodactyl panel.

Games and extras: The store lists more than 30 games, including Minecraft, Valheim, Rust, Palworld, Factorio, Enshrouded, Terraria, Satisfactory, 7 Days to Die, V Rising, Counter-Strike 2, and Hytale. The same account also covers Discord, Reddit, and WhatsApp bot hosting, plus Node.js hosting, web hosting, and domains.

Hardware: Every game server runs on Ryzen CPUs clocked above 4 GHz with NVMe SSDs. Most game servers lean on one fast core, so clock speed counts for more than core count. Locations cover North America, Europe, the UK, Asia, Australia, and India.

What plans include: Unlimited player slots and storage, free DDoS protection, scheduled and manual backups, and a 90-day money-back guarantee. Support runs 24/7. You can upgrade from the client area without downtime and pay only the pro rata difference, and there is no setup fee. On Minecraft, plans from 2 GB up support mods.

Pricing: Here are the Minecraft plans.

Plan

RAM

Price per month

Coal

1 GB

$1.99

Brick

2 GB

$3.99

Iron

4 GB

$7.99

Gold

6 GB

$11.99

Emerald

8 GB

$15.99

Diamond

12 GB

$23.99

Nether Star

16 GB

$31.99

A Scalable plan sits above these. The store shows lower prices on some billing cycles and runs regular sales, so check the cart before you pay. Valheim follows the same pattern, with 4 GB at $7.99.

Cybrancee advertises an Excellent rating on Trustpilot, with reviewers mostly praising quick support and simple setup. It has a game list that misses a few titles that Discord supports, such as Stardew Valley, Necesse, Vintage Story, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds.

How Do They Compare?

Both let you order a server without touching a command line. After that, they stop looking alike.

Discord Game Servers

Cybrancee

Status

Beta, limited availability

Live for everyone

Who hosts

Third-party providers, Shockbyte panel

Cybrancee

Games

16

30+

Entry cost

3 Boosts or a Shop subscription

$1.99/month for 1 GB Minecraft

RAM and CPU published

No

Yes, per plan

Player slots

Tied to plan, not published

Unlimited

Backups

Not documented

Scheduled and manual

Refunds

None, payments are final

90 days

Mods

Mentioned for the Pro tier

Supported from 2 GB

Support

Discord support page

24/7 live support

Cost: This is the hardest comparison, because Discord won’t tell you what a plan contains (only what we see in the screenshots they made, but not a public list). If the cheapest option really is 3 Boosts, that is roughly $15 a month for a server whose RAM you can’t see. On Cybrancee, $7.99 buys 4 GB, $11.99 buys 6 GB, and slots and storage are unlimited either way. You always know what you are paying for.

Reliability: Cybrancee servers run 24/7 on your plan until you cancel. Discord’s boost route adds conditions. Lose your boosts and the server is deleted after 3 days. Stay idle for a week, and it sleeps. Those are fine for a weekend server and uncomfortable for a world you have spent months building.

Control: Cybrancee gives you a full panel with files, console, backups, and mod installs. Discord’s version is managed hosting with fewer options, and its help page sends you to the Game Panel for anything advanced.

Convenience: Here Discord wins. Everyone is already in the app, the invite is one click, and there is no second account to create. If your friends are lazy about signing up for things, that matters.

Risk: Discord says outright that this is an experiment and that payments are non-refundable. Cybrancee gives you 90 days to run a real server with real players and ask for your money back if it doesn’t work out.

Which Is Worth It?

For most groups, Cybrancee is the one worth paying for. You see the specs before you buy, you can test it for 90 days, and your world doesn’t depend on boost counts or a beta feature staying available. Discord Game Servers are worth a look in a narrower case: you already boost your community, your game is on the list, and you want a casual server with minimal setup.

You want a quick weekend world: Try Discord’s version if it has reached your server. Just don’t build anything you would hate to lose, because the boost route can delete the server.

You want a long-running world: Rent a server. A new Valheim world runs fine on 4 GB, and a small vanilla Minecraft group can start there too. Add RAM when your usage stays near the limit.

You play modded: Pick a host that lists its RAM. Cybrancee supports Minecraft mods from the 2 GB plan up, and heavier packs need much more.

You play a game Cybrancee doesn’t list: Stardew Valley, Necesse, Vintage Story, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds are on Discord’s list, so that is where Discord wins.

You run a community: Keep the Discord server for chat and put the game server on Cybrancee. You can host your community bot on the same account.

Some mistakes are worth avoiding.

Treating it as free: Boosts cost real money each month, and the direct plans are subscriptions.

Assuming specs: Discord doesn’t publish RAM or CPU, so don’t assume a plan fits your modpack.

Ignoring the refund rules: Discord payments are final. Cybrancee gives you 90 days.

Buying too much: Three friends on a new world don’t need 16 GB. Start small and upgrade.

If you want to try it, Cybrancee’s game server hosting is where we would start, and you can keep using Discord for voice chat while you play.

Summary

Discord Game Servers let you launch a dedicated server for one of 16 games from inside Discord, either by spending Server Boosts (the cheapest option starts at 3) or by subscribing in the Shop. The servers run on third-party hosting, with a Game Panel operated by Shockbyte. The feature is still an experiment, available to a limited number of communities, and Discord doesn’t publish RAM, CPU, player limits, or backup details. Boost-unlocked servers are deleted after 3 days without enough boosts, idle servers go to sleep after 7 days, and payments are non-refundable.

Cybrancee is a live game host with more than 30 games, Ryzen CPUs above 4 GHz, NVMe storage, unlimited slots and storage, DDoS protection, backups, and 24/7 support. Minecraft starts at $1.99 for 1 GB, and every plan carries a 90-day money-back guarantee.

For a quick, casual server, Discord’s version is convenient. For a world you plan to keep, Cybrancee is the one worth paying for.

Happy gaming!

Looking for affordable game server hosting?
