Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game based on the stories created by Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian. You begin as a condemned criminal, left to die crucified on a wooden cross in the desert, until Conan himself cuts you down and leaves you to fend for yourself in the Exiled Lands. From there, it's up to you to gather resources, craft tools, build a shelter, and survive in the Exiled Lands.

Building
Building in Conan Exiles is is a big part of the game, and offers a lot of customization options. There are multiple architectural styles to unlock, ranging from basic sandstone shacks to Aquilonian castles, and Stygian temples. Bases can be defended with traps, gates, and siege defences. On PvP servers, you can use trebuchets and explosives to break down enemy walls. Thralls are a core part of the game, capture human NPCs by knocking them out and dragging them back to the Wheel of Pain, where they're broken and turned into crafters, fighters, archers, or entertainers. A well-placed fighter thrall can defend your base while you're offline.
Maps, DLC's and Mods
Conan Exiles has two main maps, the original Exiled Lands, and the Isle of Siptah expansion released in 2021, which adds a brand new island with its own progression, factions, and creatures. On top of this, there are dozens of cosmetic DLC packs adding new building sets, armour styles, and weapons. Mod support on PC is excellent, with the Steam Workshop hosting thousands of mods covering everything from quality-of-life tweaks like Pippi and Less Building Placement Restrictions, to massive overhauls and new content. The latest major update, Conan Exiles Enhanced, launching on May 5th, 2026 as a free Unreal Engine 5 visual overhaul for all Steam owners, marking the game's 8-year anniversary.
