About American Truck Simulator
What is American Truck Simulator?
First released in 2016, American Truck Simulator has become one of the most popular truck driving simulators worldwide. Players take the role of a real world truck driver, from the comfort of their own room. Exploring the United States, delivering cargo and managing their trucking business. The game features realistic driving physics, scenery and a variety of vehicles to choose from.
The game is known for its realistic driving physics, detailed American road networks, and day/night cycles that make long hauls feel immersive. It has a large and dedicated community, and SCS Software continues to actively develop the game many years after release.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer in American Truck Simulator works differently to most games. For years the game was singleplayer-only, and even today the official Convoy mode is built around small private sessions with friends rather than public matchmaking. SCS added dedicated server support in 2022, and since the 1.50 update in 2024 convoys can host up to 128 players. For large-scale public multiplayer, most players turn to TruckersMP, a third-party mod that's effectively the standard for trucking alongside hundreds of others.
Building a Business
American Truck Simulator isn't just about driving, you can also build your own trucking business. You start off as a freelance truck driver, doing odd-jobs. After you've completed enough jobs, and have saved up some money, you can buy your own truck. The upside is you now get 'freight contracts' which are worth substantially more than the odd-jobs you were doing previously, however, you are now responsible for fuel, road tolls, ferry crossings, and truck damage/repairs. As you progress, you gain XP, and money. Finally, you can start hiring your own drivers, and opening garages across the United States, now you have an empire, enjoy the money rolling in.
DLC's
There are dozens of DLCs available for American Truck Simulator, with 17 of those being map expansions. New DLCs are also frequently added. The map expansions add entire new states to drive through, such as Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, Wyoming, Iowa, Louisiana, and more. You need to own a map DLC to drive through it, so on multiplayer servers players without it can't enter those areas.
