How to Edit Types.xml on Your DayZ Server

Editing your types.xml file allows you to control loot spawn rates, quantities, and item behavior across your DayZ server. This is one of the most common and powerful ways to customize DayZ.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Stop Your Server

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Locate The db Folder

Navigate to the directory /home/container/mpmissions/dayzOffline.[map]/db/

Inside this folder, you’ll find:

  • types.xml
  • events.xml
  • globals.xml
  • cfgeconomycore.xml
  • other economy files

Select types.xml file

5. Open the types.xml File

Here are the most important settings you’ll likely change:

  • nominal
The target number of this item that the economy tries to keep on the map.
  • min
The minimum number that must exist before the game starts spawning more.
  • lifetime
How long the item lasts on the ground in seconds.
  • restock
How often the item respawns (in seconds). Usually kept at 0.
  • quantmin / quantmax
    For ammo, food, fuel, etc.
    Controls the spawn amount.
    -1 means “use default”
    Positive numbers set specific quantities
  • cost
Affects how the economy balances item rarity (higher = rarer).
  • flags
Controls how an item is counted:
    count_in_cargo
    count_in_hoarder
    count_in_map

6. Example: Increase Weapon Spawns

If you want more M4A1 rifles to appear, change for example:

<nominal>12</nominal> → <nominal>25</nominal>
<min>6</min> → <min>15</min>

Do not set extremely high values (like 200+) this may break loot economy.

7. Example: Make Food Spawn More Frequently

Find the type entry (e.g., “Apple”) and modify:

<nominal>50</nominal> → <nominal>100</nominal>
<min>25</min> → <min>50</min>

8. Save the File

Select ‘Save Content’ button once your changes are complete.

Your server must be restarted for the economy to rebuild and apply the new loot distribution.

Troubleshooting

Your server won’t start?

  • You likely broke XML formatting.
  • Revert to your backup or validate using an online XML validator.

Loot isn’t respawning?

  • Check nominal and min values.
  • Make sure lifetime is not set too high.

Too much loot?

  • Reduce nominal.
  • Remove hoarder counts from flags if players store too much.
