How to Set Up RCON on Your Rust Server

1. Find Your RCON Information

To connect with an RCON client, you’ll need:

  • IP Address – Your server’s IP.
  • Server Port – Your server’s Port.
  • RCON Port – The RCON port.
  • Password – Your RCON password set in the server startup parameters.
  • Steam API Key (optional, but recommended) – Needed if you want RustAdmin to fetch Steam data (like avatars, bans, or Steam names).

4. Locate Your Server IP and Port

Your server’s IP is the set of numbers before the colon :. The server’s port is the 5-digit number after the colon :.

5. Locate the RCON Password

7. Download the RCON Client

There are different RCON clients available. For this guide, we’ll be using RustAdmin, as it’s one of the most user-friendly options.

After downloading it, unzip the folder and launch RustAdmin.exe to get started.

8. Select the ‘Configuration’ Tab

Enter the server information from Steps 4, 5, and 6. Once completed, select the ‘Save’ button.

  • IP – Your server’s IP address.
  • Server Port – Your server’s Port.
  • RCON Port – The RCON port.
  • Password – Your RCON password set in the server startup parameters.

9. Optional: Register Your Steam API Key

Go to the Steam API Key page in your browser.

Enter your domain or server name in the ‘Domain Name’ field and select the ‘Register’ button.

10. Copy Your Steam API Key

11. Enter the Steam API Key

Copy the generated Steam API Key and paste it into the API Key field in the RustAdmin Config tab.

12. Connect to Your Server

Select the ‘Connect’ button. Once connected, you’ll see your server console and can run commands remotely.
