Expansion Core Configuration Files Explained

Inside the Settings folder, you’ll find several JSON files. Each file controls a specific part of Expansion Core behavior.

CoreSettings.json (Main File)

This is the core configuration file for DayZ Expansion.

It controls how Expansion interacts with the base game systems, such as item updates and inventory handling.

You’ll usually only touch this file if:

  • You’re running a heavily customized server
  • You want tighter control over economy updates
  • You experience inventory or CE-related inconsistencies

For most servers, the default values are perfectly fine and do not need to be changed.

Recommended: Leave this file unchanged unless you know exactly what behavior you want to modify.

DamageSystemSettings.json

This file controls Expansion’s custom damage system, mainly related to:

  • Explosions
  • Projectile damage
  • Advanced impact handling

Key point to know:

  • If "Enabled": 0, Expansion’s custom damage system is disabled
  • The server will fall back to DayZ’s vanilla damage behavior

You only need to modify this file if:

  • You’re using Expansion explosives or vehicles
  • You want custom explosion or impact behavior
  • You’re building PvE or protected environments

Most servers can safely leave this disabled.

LogsSettings.json

This file controls what Expansion logs to server logs.

It allows you to enable or disable logging for:

  • Vehicles
  • Raiding
  • Safezones
  • AI
  • Killfeed
  • Territories
  • Economy systems

This file does not affect gameplay, only logging.

  • You may want to adjust it if:
  • You want cleaner logs
  • You’re debugging a specific Expansion feature
  • You want detailed audit logs for admin activity

Tip: Disabling unused log categories can slightly reduce log spam on busy servers.

MonitoringSettings.json

This file controls Expansion’s monitoring system.

If "Enabled": 0, the system is inactive.

Most servers do not use this feature and can safely ignore this file.

NotificationSchedulerSettings.json (Scheduled Messages)

This file allows you to schedule automatic server notifications.

You can configure:

  • Time-based announcements
  • Restart warnings
  • Event reminders
  • Custom server messages

By default, this system is disabled.

Enable and configure it if you want:

Automated announcements

Regular reminders without mods

A more polished server experience

This is optional and mostly cosmetic, but useful for community servers.

NotificationSettings.json

This file controls in-game notifications, including:

  • Player join/leave messages
  • Killfeed messages
  • Airdrop notifications
  • Territory alerts
  • AI-related messages

You can selectively enable or disable each notification type.

Common use cases:

  • Disable killfeed for hardcore servers
  • Enable full notifications for PvE or community servers
  • Reduce chat spam

Very useful for tailoring the server’s ‘feel’ without gameplay changes.

Applying Changes

After editing the desired configuration files:

  • Select the ‘Save Content‘ button
  • Start your server

Expansion Core will load the new settings during startup.

Important Notes & Best Practices

  • Always restart your server after changing Expansion settings.
  • Edit one configuration file at a time, then test the changes in-game.
  • Keep backups before making major configuration changes.
  • Expansion settings are independent from vanilla DayZ configuration files.
  • For advanced tuning (vehicles, AI, raiding, …), use dedicated guides for each Expansion module.
