How to Whitelist a DayZ Server

How DayZ Whitelisting Works

When a player joins your DayZ server for the first time, the server automatically generates a unique player identity ID.

This ID is:

  • Generated internally by DayZ
  • Stored by the server
  • Used for whitelist validation

Only this ID can be added to the whitelist.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Stop Your Server

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Open the serverDZ.cfg

You can find the serverDZ.cfg folder in the root directory.

5. Enable the Whitelist

Open the serverDZ.cfg file and locate the whitelist setting.

If the line does not exist, add it manually:

enableWhitelist = 1;

  • 0 → Whitelist disabled
  • 1 → Whitelist enabled

Select the ‘Save button’ after making the change.

6. Start the Server Once

Start your server so DayZ can apply the whitelist setting.

At this stage:

  • The whitelist is enabled
  • No players will be allowed to join unless they are whitelisted

7. Let Players Join Once (Required)

To whitelist a player, they must connect at least once.

This is required because:

  • DayZ only generates the player identity ID on first connection
  • You cannot whitelist players who have never joined

You can temporarily disable the whitelist, let players join once, then re-enable it.

8. Locate the Player Identity ID

When a player tries to join the server for the first time, DayZ automatically generates their Player Identity ID.

This ID will appear in the server console output during the connection attempt.

After completing Step 7, ask the player to connect to the server once.

8.1. Select the ‘Console’ Tab

Copy the identity ID shown in the console — this is the value required for the whitelist.

9. Add Players to the Whitelist

9.1. Open the whitelist.txt file

If it does not exist, create a new file named:

whitelist.txt

9.2. Add player IDs

Add one player identity ID per line.

Do not add:

  • SteamIDs
  • Player names
  • IP addresses

Only DayZ player identity IDs are valid.

Select the ‘Save button’ when finished.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using SteamIDs in whitelist.txt
  • Trying to whitelist players who never joined
  • Enabling whitelist but leaving the file empty
  • Forgetting to restart the server after changes
