How to Change Weather Settings on Your DayZ Server

1. Log In to Your Panel

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Locate the cfgweather.xml file

Note:

The path to cfgweather.xml depends on your server’s map.

– Chernarus: /mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/
– Livonia: /mpmissions/dayzOffline.enoch
– Custom maps: the folder name will match the mission file (e.g., /mpmissions/dayzOffline.banov/).

If you’re not sure which map your server is running, check your startup settings or the list of mission folders inside /mpmissions/.

5. Weather Configuration Overview

Inside cfgweather.xml, locate the Weather section.

This block controls how often weather changes and how intense it becomes.

At the top of the file: <weather reset="0" enable="0">

• enable
  Enables or disables the weather configuration file.
  1 = enabled
  0 = disabled (weather loads from persistence instead)

• reset
  Forces the server to ignore stored weather data and reload values from this file.
  Set to 1 if you want changes to apply immediately on next restart.

Tip: If your changes don’t apply after restart, set reset="1" temporarily to force the server to reload the weather configuration.

6. Weather Configuration Parameters Explained

Here are the most important weather values you may want to adjust:

Overcast (Cloud Coverage)

Controls cloud density and overall sky darkness.

• current actual
  Initial cloud level (0.0 = clear sky, 1.0 = fully overcast)

• limits
  Minimum and maximum cloud coverage allowed

• timelimits
  How long it takes for clouds to transition between values (in seconds)

• changelimits
  How much the overcast can change per cycle

Higher overcast values allow rain and storms to occur.

Fog

Controls ground fog density and visibility.

• current actual
  Initial fog intensity (0.0 = no fog, 1.0 = very dense)

• limits
  Allowed fog intensity range

• timelimits
  Time it takes for fog to change

• changelimits
  Maximum fog variation per cycle

Lower values result in clearer visibility.

Rain

Controls rainfall intensity and duration.

• current actual
  Initial rain amount (0.0 = no rain, 1.0 = heavy rain)

• limits
  Allowed rain intensity range

• timelimits
  How quickly rain starts or stops

• changelimits
  How much rain intensity can change

• thresholds
  Rain only occurs if overcast is within this range
  If overcast drops outside the range, rain stops after the specified time

Wind Magnitude (Strength)

Controls wind speed, affecting weather atmosphere and sound.

• current actual
  Initial wind speed (m/s)

• limits
  Minimum and maximum wind strength

• timelimits
  Time it takes for wind speed to change

• changelimits
  Maximum change per cycle

Higher values create stronger storms.

Wind Direction

Controls the direction the wind blows from.

• current actual
  Initial wind direction (in radians)

• limits
  Direction range (-3.14 to 3.14)

• timelimits
  How quickly wind direction shifts

• changelimits
  Maximum direction change per cycle

Snowfall

⚠️ Vanilla maps do not support snowfall.

This section must remain set to 0 unless using a custom winter map.

Storm & Lightning

• density
  Frequency of lightning strikes

• threshold
  Minimum overcast value required for storms

• timeout
  Time (seconds) between lightning strikes

Storms only occur during heavy overcast.

7. Save the File

Select the ‘SAVE CONTENT‘ button.

8. Start Your Server

Start the server for the new weather settings to take effect.
