Expansion Vehicles Configuration Explained

DayZ Expansion Vehicles includes a dedicated configuration file that controls how vehicles behave, how damage is handled, and how locking systems work.

Below are the most important settings you’ll likely want to adjust.

Vehicle Damage & Safety

These options control how vehicles take damage and how dangerous crashes are.

  • DisableVehicleDamage
    0 = Vehicle damage enabled (default)
    1 = Vehicles are indestructible

    Set this to 1 if you want no vehicle damage at all.
  • VehicleCrewDamageMultiplier
    Multiplier for damage taken by players inside vehicles.
    Lower values reduce player damage during crashes.
  • VehicleSpeedDamageMultiplier
    Controls how much speed affects vehicle damage.
    Higher values = harsher crash damage.
  • CollisionDamageIfEngineOff
    Allows or prevents collision damage when the engine is off.
  • CollisionDamageMinSpeedKmh
    Minimum speed required for collision damage to occur.

Locking & Vehicle Security

These settings control keys, locks, and vehicle access.

  • VehicleRequireKeyToStart
    Requires a key to start vehicles when enabled.
  • VehicleRequireAllDoors
    Forces all doors to be attached before the vehicle can be used.
  • VehicleLockedAllowInventoryAccess
    Allows or blocks access to vehicle inventory when locked.
  • MasterKeyPairingMode
    Controls how master keys behave (advanced key system).
  • CanPickLock
    Enables or disables lockpicking on vehicles.
  • PickLockChancePercent
    Success chance when lockpicking a vehicle.
  • PickLockTimeSeconds
    Time required to pick a lock.

Helicopters, Boats & Advanced Physics

  • EnableHelicopterExplosions
    Enables explosions when helicopters crash.
  • EnableTailRotorDamage
    Allows tail rotor damage on helicopters.
  • EnableWindAerodynamics
    Enables wind effects on aircraft (recommended only for experienced admins).
  • Towing
    Enables vehicle towing mechanics.

Fuel, Engines & Performance

  • DamagedEngineStartupChancePercent
    Chance that a damaged engine will still start.
  • FuelConsumptionPercent
    Adjusts fuel usage (100 = default).
    Lower values = longer fuel lifespan.
  • RevvingOverMaxRPMRuinsEngineInstantly
    Instantly destroys the engine if max RPM is exceeded.

Vehicle Covers & Storage

  • CanCoverWithCargo
    Allows vehicles with cargo to be covered.
  • EnableVehicleCovers
    Allows vehicles to be covered with camo nets or covers.
  • VehicleAutoCoverTimeSeconds
    Automatically covers vehicles after a set time.

Per-Vehicle Lock Complexity (Advanced)

At the bottom of the file, you’ll find the VehiclesConfig section.

This allows you to define how difficult each vehicle is to lock or break into.

Example:

{
"ClassName": "ExpansionUAZ",
"LockComplexity": 2.5
}

Higher values make the vehicle harder to lockpick or access.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Always restart your server after changing Expansion Vehicles settings.
  • Edit one configuration file at a time, then test the changes in-game.
  • Keep a backup of the original config files before making major adjustments.
  • Expansion Vehicles settings are independent from vanilla DayZ vehicle settings.
  • If you experience crashes or unexpected behavior, revert changes and check the server logs.
