5. Understand How Loot Spawning Works

Each item in types.xml is defined inside a block, for example:

dayz types.xml file with settings outlined

Key values explained

  • nominal
Maximum number of this item that can exist on the map
  • min
Minimum amount the economy tries to maintain
  • lifetime
How long (in seconds) the item stays before cleanup
  • restock
Delay before new items can spawn
  • quantmin / quantmax
Ammo or stack quantity (for mags, food, etc.)
  • cost Priority in the loot economy

6. Control Item Persistence (Cleanup)

To keep items longer on the map, increase lifetime:

<lifetime>28800</lifetime>

  • Items remain twice as long before cleanup
  • Useful for PvE servers

Lower values result in faster cleanup and fresher loot cycles.

7. Adjust Stack Sizes and Ammo Amounts

For items like magazines or food:

<quantmin>30</quantmin>
<quantmax>60</quantmax>

  • Controls how full items spawn
  • Great for balancing ammo scarcity

8. Save the File

After making your changes, select the Save Content button.

Make sure:

  • XML syntax is correct
  • No duplicate <type> entries exist
  • Values remain numeric

9. Restart Your Server

Start the server to apply the new loot configuration.

DayZ will rebuild the economy automatically using the updated types.xml.
