How to Install Backpacks Plugin on Your Rust Server

Backpacks gives players an extra inventory they can access anytime. The size and features of the backpack depend on the permissions you assign.

1. Download the Plugin

Download the ‘Backpacks‘ plugin from the Umod official website.


2. Log In to Your Panel


3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Locate the ‘plugins’ Folder

You can find the folder in  /home/container/oxide/plugins.

5. Upload Your Plugin

Upload the ‘Backpacks’ .cs file you downloaded in Step 1.

After uploading, you should see the .cs file in the folder.

6. Restart Your Server

7. Allow Players to Use backpacks

To let all players use backpacks, grant the following permission typing this command in your server console:

o.grant group default backpacks.use

Allow players to use the GUI button
To show the backpack GUI button for all players, type in your server console:

o.grant group default backpacks.gui

Players can then click the button (next to their belt) to open or close their backpack.
They can also use /backpackgui to hide or show the button.


8. Backpacks Config Settings


8.1 Select the ‘Files’ Tab

8.2 Locate the ‘config’ Folder

8.3 Open the ‘Backpacks.json’ file

Find and open the ‘Backpacks.json‘ file to edit the plugin settings.


8.4 Common Settings

Backpack Size

  • Default size → The number of slots every new backpack starts with.
  • Max size per page → The maximum number of slots a backpack can hold per page (can expand with permissions).

Drop on Death

  • If enabled, the contents of a backpack will drop on the ground when the player dies.
  • If disabled, the backpack stays intact after death.

Erase on Death

  • Permanently deletes the items inside the backpack when the player dies.

Clear on Wipe

  • Automatically clears all backpacks when the server is wiped, ensuring no items carry over to the next wipe cycle.

9. Select the ‘Save Content’ Button

Once you have configured all your desired settings for speed, fuel, output, whitelist, and blacklist, select the ‘Save Content’ button at the bottom of the configuration panel.

10. Reload the Plugin

In the console field, type o.reload Backpacks and press Enter to reload your plugin.

11. Backpacks Quick Settings

Basic Permissions

  • backpacks.use → Required to open a backpack.
  • backpacks.gui → Show a GUI button to open it.
  • backpacks.size.# → Sets size (e.g. backpacks.size.24 = 4 rows).
  • backpacks.admin → Allows admins to view other players’ backpacks.
  • backpacks.admin.protected — Prevents other admins from accessing your backpack with the viewbackpack command.
  • backpacks.keepondeath → Keep items after death.

Main Commands

  • /backpack or /bp → Open your backpack.
  • /backpackgui → Toggle the GUI button.
  • /viewbackpack <name or steamID> → View another player’s backpack (admin).
  • /backpack clean → Clear backpack (admin).
