How to Change the Difficulty on Your Left 4 Dead 2 Server

Note:

Left 4 Dead 2 has four core difficulty levels. The game dynamically adjusts how much damage the infected deal, how much health they have, and how punishing friendly fire is based on what you choose:

Expert: Absolute punishment. Common infected can take you down in just a few hits, Witches are instantly lethal, and a stray shotgun blast to a teammate can wipe your squad. Only for veteran players with incredible teamwork

Easy: A relaxed, zombie-slaying sandbox. Medkits are everywhere, zombies die to a single pistol shot, and friendly fire deals zero damage. Perfect for total beginners or achievement hunting.

Normal: The standard, balanced experience (and the default for Versus mode). Zombies hit a bit harder, and you will actually need to rely on your teammates to survive Special Infected pins.

Advanced: A massive step up in challenge. Healing items are much rarer, the horde is relentless, and friendly fire actually hurts. You need strong communication and good aim to survive.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Select the ‘cfg’ Folder

5. Select the ‘server.cfg‘ File

6. Add the Difficulty Command

Scroll to the bottom of your file (or a section you prefer) and type the following command on a new, blank line: z_difficulty "Normal"

7. Choose Your Difficulty Level

Change the word inside the quotation marks to set your desired challenge level.
(Note: You must use these exact code words, or the server will not recognize it!)

Easy: z_difficulty "Easy"

Normal: z_difficulty "Normal"

Advanced: z_difficulty "Hard"

Expert: z_difficulty "Impossible"

8. Save the File

9. Restart Your Server
