5. Understand Inventory Weight Variables

Inside globals.xml, inventory weight behavior is affected mainly by these variables:

<var name="InitialSpawn" type="0" value="100"/>
<var name="TimePenalty" type="0" value="20"/>

More importantly, inventory penalties are indirectly controlled through stamina and cleanup logic rather than a single “max weight” value.

However, DayZ uses stamina penalties based on carried weight, so increasing effective inventory capacity is done by adjusting weight-related thresholds.

6. Increase Effective Inventory Capacity

DayZ does not use a direct maximum inventory weight value.
Instead, it applies penalties over time when players are overburdened.

To make heavy inventories more forgiving, adjust this value in globals.xml:

<var name="TimePenalty" type="0" value="20"/>

What this value controls

TimePenalty defines how often stamina and movement penalties are applied when a player is carrying too much weight.

Lower values = penalties apply less frequently
Higher values = penalties apply more often

Example values:

  • 20 → Default DayZ behavior
  • 10 → Reduced penalty when overburdened
  • 5 → Much more forgiving inventory weight
  • 0 → Weight penalties are almost completely removed

Lowering this value allows players to carry more items before stamina and movement penalties noticeably affect gameplay.

7. Optional: Reduce Item Damage From Weight

You can also reduce how damaged loot becomes when spawned:

<var name="LootDamageMin" type="1" value="0.0"/>
<var name="LootDamageMax" type="1" value="0.82"/>

Lower damage values mean:

  • Items spawn in better condition
  • Less need to carry repair materials
  • More inventory efficiency overall

8. Save the File

Select the ‘Save Content’ button once your changes are complete.

9. Start Your Server

Start the server for the changes to take effect.

DayZ will reload globals.xml automatically on startup.
