4.1. How Animal Spawns Work in DayZ

On vanilla servers, animals use the built-in dynamic spawn system provided by the map itself. This means:

  • Animal spawn locations are calculated automatically
  • No custom zones are required
  • Spawn behavior depends on biome and map logic

Population size and frequency are controlled entirely through events.xml.

4.2. Editing Animal Spawn Amounts (events.xml)

Key values explained:

  • nominal
Target number of animals alive at the same time
  • min / max
    Minimum and maximum population limits
  • lifetime
How long (in seconds) the animal stays before despawning

These values define how many animals can exist and how long they remain active.
