How To Optimise Hibernation Settings on Your CS2 Server

The sv_hibernate commands control how the server behaves when no players are present. These are particularly useful for community server owners looking to balance CPU usage with “readiness.”

1. Log In to Your Panel

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Open the ‘server.cfg’ File

Navigate to:

game/csgo/cfg/

5. Edit the file

Tip: Use Ctrl + F to quickly find the required setting inside server.cfg

Command	Recommended Value	Description
sv_hibernate_when_empty	1	Enables hibernation. If set to 0, the server runs at full tickrate even with 0 players (wastes CPU).
sv_hibernate_postgame_delay	300	How many seconds the server waits after the last player leaves before entering hibernation.
sv_hibernate_ms	20	The milliseconds the main server thread sleeps when hibernating. Higher = lower CPU use, but slower “wake up.”
sv_hibernate_ms_vgui	20	The milliseconds the UI thread sleeps when hibernating.
