How To Fix the “Disconnect: Client Timed Out” Error in Left 4 Dead 2

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Stop Your Server

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

7. Increase the Timeout Value

Add a new line at the bottom of the file that reads: sv_timeout 120. By default, L4D2 kicks players if they lag for more than 65 seconds. Changing this to 120 gives players with momentary ping spikes a full two minutes to reconnect before the server drops them.

8. Adjust Network Rates

Below your timeout setting, add sv_minrate 30000 and sv_maxrate 100000 on separate lines. This increases the amount of bandwidth your server is allowed to use, preventing data bottlenecks during chaotic horde events where too much on-screen action causes players to lag out.

9. Select the ‘Save Contents’ Button
