How To Change the View Distance on Your Space Engineers Server

Note:

The View Distance dictates how far away players can see grids, voxels, and asteroids before they fade into the background fog. While a massive view distance looks incredibly cinematic and helps you spot enemy ships from miles away, it is also one of the most demanding settings on your server’s RAM and CPU. Lowering the view distance is a fantastic way to instantly boost simulation speed on a struggling server.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

3. Select the ‘config’ Folder

4. Select the ‘Saves’ Folder

5. Select the ‘World’ Folder

6. Inside the ‘World’ Folder, Select the ‘Sandbox_config.sbc‘ File

7. Configure the View Distance Setting

Scroll through the file or use Ctrl + F to find the <ViewDistance> tag. The value inside this tag is measured in meters.

For Cinematic Range (Heavy Server Load): Increase the value to 20,000 meters or higher. Example: <ViewDistance>20000</ViewDistance>

For High Performance (Recommended for Large Servers): Lower the value to 7,000 or 10,000 meters. Example: <ViewDistance>10000</ViewDistance>

For Default Vanilla Range: Set the value to <ViewDistance>15000</ViewDistance>
