How To Roll Back Your Valheim Server to Pre-1.0

Important!

Both the server and all connecting players must run the exact same build version. If your server is rolled back while a player remains on the live build (or vice versa), the game will reject the handshake with an “Incompatible Version” connection error.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Select the ‘Startup’ Tab

3. Locate the ‘Beta Branch’ Variable

4. Enter ‘default_pre1_0’ in Beta Branch

5. Navigate to the ‘Settings’ Tab

6. Select the ‘Reinstall’ Button

7. Confirm Server Reinstallation

In the confirmation popup, ensure the dropdown is set to Keep current files and reinstall server, then click Continue. This downloads the pre-1.0 server binaries without deleting your world saves or configuration files.

8. Click the ‘Settings’ (Gear Icon) in Steam Library

9. Select the ‘Properties’ Option

10. Select the ‘Game Versions & Betas’ Tab

11. Select the ‘default_pre1_0’ Beta Branch

12. Allow Steam To Update Your Game

Close the Properties window. Steam will immediately begin downloading and applying the rolled-back build. Once the progress bar finishes and the button turns to Play, launch the game and connect to your server.
