How to Fix World File Corruption on Your Terraria Server

Note: World file corruption typically happens after an unexpected server crash, abrupt power loss, or forced shutdown while saving. Terraria automatically maintains a .wld.bak backup file in your server directory, allowing you to restore your world state without losing your structures and items.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Stop Your Server

In your server dashboard header, click the red ‘Stop’ button to completely halt all server processes before modifying world save files.

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

From the left navigation menu, select the ‘Files’ tab to access your server’s root directory.

4. Open the ‘saves’ Folder

In your server root directory, locate the ‘saves’ folder and click on it to open it.

5. Open the ‘Worlds’ Folder

Inside the saves directory, click on the ‘Worlds’ folder to view your stored world save files.

6. Locate Corrupted and Backup World Files

Locate your primary world file with the ‘.wld’ extension alongside the automatic backup file ending in ‘.wld.bak’.

7. Rename the Corrupted World File

Click the three dots next to your corrupted ‘.wld’ file, select ‘Rename’, and change the extension to ‘.wld.corrupted’ to prevent conflict.

8. Restore the Backup by Renaming the ‘.wld.bak’ File

Click the three dots next to the ‘.wld.bak’ backup file, select ‘Rename’, and remove the ‘.bak’ extension so it becomes your active ‘.wld’ file.

Navigate back to the top header and click the green ‘Start’ button to boot up the server with your freshly restored world.
