How To Recover a Corrupted Valheim World Using .db.old and .fwl.old Files

Important!

Always stop your server immediately before modifying save files. If the server remains online while files are corrupt, the automated save cycle will eventually overwrite your healthy .db.old and .fwl.old recovery copies with corrupted data, permanently destroying your backup.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Select the ‘File’ Tab

3. Select the ‘.config‘ Folder

---

4. Navigate to the ’Valheim’ Folder Inside the ’.Config’ Folder

Path: home > container > config > unity3d > IronGate > Valheim

5. Select the ‘worlds_local’ Folder

---

6. Review Your World Files and Automated Backups

Inside worlds_local, you will see your active world files alongside automated engine snapshots:

(I) Active files: Dedicated.db and Dedicated.fwl

(II) Fallback backups: Dedicated.db.old and Dedicated.fwl.old

(III) Timestamped engine backups: Dedicated_backup_auto-.db and .fwl

7. Select ‘Dedicated.db’ and Click ‘Rename’

8. Rename the Corrupted File to ‘Corrupted_Dedicated.db’

9. Select ‘Dedicated.db.old’ and Click ‘Rename’

10. Rename ‘Dedicated.db.old’ to ‘Dedicated.db’

---

11. Select ‘Dedicated.fwl.old’ and Click ‘Rename’

---

12. Rename ‘Dedicated.fwl.old’ to ‘Dedicated.fwl’

13. Restart Your Server
