How To Change the Death Penalty on a Palworld Server

Note:

If you find the default survival experience too punishing—or not punishing enough—the DeathPenalty setting is the most important variable in your Palworld server configuration. This setting determines exactly what a player loses when they fall in battle, from dropping nothing at all to losing every item and Pal in their current party.

1. Log In to Your Panel

2. Stop Your Server

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Open the ‘PalWorldSettings.ini’ File

Navigate to:

Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini

5. Locate the Variable

Tip: Use Ctrl + F to quickly find the required setting inside PalWorldSettings.ini

Search for DeathPenalty

Setting Value	Penalty Level	Effect
None	Peaceful	Players keep everything. No death bag is dropped.
Item	Standard	Players drop gathered materials (wood, stone, etc.) but keep equipment.
ItemAndEquipment	Hard	Players drop all materials, armor, and weapons.
All	Hardcore	Maximum Risk. Players drop all items, equipment, and every Pal in their party.
