How to Mute or Unmute Players on Your Rust Server

Important!

To mute or unmute players, you’ll need to use an RCON client. If you’re unsure how to configure RCON, check out this guide How to Set Up RCON on Your Rust Server.

1. Connect to Your RCON Client

2. Enter the RCON Console Command

Enter the comand mute player_name_or_steam_id. Replace player_name_or_steam_id with the player’s username or Steam ID. This will mute both their voice and text chat.

If you don’t know the users Steam ID, check out our How to Find a Rust User’s SteamID guide.

For Example: mute 76561198169700922.

To unmute a player, use the same steps and replace the command with unmute.

Important!

The following method require Oxide to be installed on your server before adding plugins.

1. Download the Plugin

Download the “Better Chat Mute” plugin from the Umod official website.

2. Log In to Your Panel

3. Select the ‘Files’ Tab

4. Locate the ‘plugins’ Folder

You can find the folder in  /home/container/oxide/plugins.

5. Upload Your Plugin

Upload the BetterChatmMute.cs file you downloaded in Step 1.

After uploading, you should see the .cs file in the folder.

6. Restart Your Server

7. Select the ‘Console’ Tab

8. Mute or Unmute Players

Type the following command in the console field to mute players. Replace <player|steamid> with the user’s name or SteamID. If you don’t know the user Steam ID, check out our How to Find a Rust User’s SteamID.

• bcm.mute <player|steamid> [reason] — Mutes player permanently.

• bcm.mute <player|steamid> <time: 1d1h1m1s> [reason] — Mutes player temporarily.

• bcm.unmute <player|steamid> — Unmutes player.

• bcm.mutelist — Shows players that are muted.

For example: 
mute 76561198169700922 spammer
