How To Upload Your World to Your Project Zomboid Server (B41/B42)

Important!

If the world you want to upload IS NOT from a server or local multiplayer game, the characters and their progress will be reset, preserving only the world, structures, configuration, items, etc.

Please not that that if your world has mods, you must install the same mods on your server before connecting to it. Otherwise, your save may experience corruption or loss of items/objects in it.

1. Open Your File Explorer

2. Locate the ‘Saves’ Folder

You can find the folder in C:\Users\<username>\Zomboid\Saves.

3. Select the Preset Folder

If your world was created in ‘Sandbox’, ‘Apocalypse’, ‘Builder’ etc, or if it is a ‘Multiplayer’ world, then you will be able to find the save inside that folder.

For example, our save was created in the ‘Sandbox’ preset.

4. Archive Your Local Save in RAR/ZIP Format

You will be able to see your save folder with the name of the date it was created.

(1) Right-Click on Your Save Folder

(2) Select ‘Add to Archive’ Button

Select the compression format. It is recommended to use RAR or ZIP, then select the ‘OK’ button:

5. Log In to Your Panel

6. Stop your Server

7. Select the ‘Files’ tab

8. Locate the ‘Multiplayer’ Folder

You can find the folder in /home/container/.cache/Saves/Multiplayer.

9. Rename the Server’s Current Save Folder

Right-click on the three-dot button on the right side of the file and select the ‘Rename’ button.

Enter _old at the end of the name:

10. Drag Your Compressed Save File Into the Directory

Drag the compressed save file you created in step 4 into the directory.

10.1. Unarchive the Compressed Save File

Right-click on the three-dot button on the right side of the file and select the ‘Unarchive’ button.

Once unarchived, it should look like this:

11. Rename Your Save Folder

Rename the unarchived save folder with the same name that the server’s save folder had, without the _old at the end.

Once done, it should look like this:

If the world you have uploaded IS NOT from a server or local Multiplayer game, you must delete the players.db file, which is located inside the world folder you have uploaded. Otherwise, the server will not be able to start correctly.
