How To Create a Discord Bot Account

1. Create a Discord Bot


1.1 Log In to the Discord Developer Portal


1.2 Select the ‘New Application’ Button

1.3 Fill In the Form

  1. Name: Give your application a name
  2. Team: Select whether your application is “Personal” or related to a team.
  3. Tick the box
  4. Select the ‘Create’ Button

1.4 Select the ‘Bot’ Tab

Make sure that Public Bot is ticked if you want others to invite your bot.

You should also make sure that Require OAuth2 Code Grant is unchecked unless you are developing a service that needs it. If you’re unsure, then leave it unchecked.


1.5 Copy the Token

  • Select the ‘Reset Token’ button
  • Select the ‘Copy’ button to copy the token

Please do not share this token to anywhere / anyone


2. Invite Your Discord Bot to a Discord Server


2.1 Log In to the Discord Developer Portal


2.2 Select Your Application


2.3 Select the ‘OAuth2’ Tab

2.4 Scroll to the ‘OAuth2 URL Generator’ Section

Once scrolled, tick the ‘bot’ checkbox.

2.5 Scroll to the ‘Bot Permissions’ Section

There, you can tick the permissions required for your bot to function.

Please be aware of the consequences of requiring your bot to have the “Administrator” permission.

Bot owners must have 2FA enabled for certain actions and permissions when added in servers that have Server-Wide 2FA enabled. Check the 2FA support page for more information.

Now the resulting URL can be used to invite your bot to a server. Copy and paste the URL into your browser, choose a server to invite the bot to, and select the “Authorize” button.
